Hubble của NASA phát hiện cơn bão Great Red Spot của sao Mộc đang tăng tốc

 Vết đỏ lớn của Sao Mộc có thể là cơn bão nổi tiếng nhất trong hệ mặt trời. Nhân loại đã theo dõi các cuộc phiêu lưu của xoáy nước trong 150 năm, và chúng ta vừa học được một điều gì đó mới mẻ về nó. Những cơn gió dọc theo rìa ngoài của hình bầu dục đang tăng tốc. Gợi lên "Ngọn gió thay đổi" của The Scorpions.

Kính viễn vọng Không gian Hubble - một dự án hợp tác của NASA và Cơ quan Vũ trụ Châu Âu - đã ghi lại một hiện tượng thú vị. Tốc độ gió ở "làn ngoài" của vị trí đã tăng lên 8% từ năm 2009 đến năm 2020. Trong khi đó, NASA cho biết những cơn gió trong cùng "đang di chuyển chậm hơn đáng kể, giống như ai đó đang lướt qua một cách uể oải vào một buổi chiều Chủ nhật đầy nắng."

Hubble đã theo dõi Sao Mộc trong nhiều năm. Sự thay đổi tốc độ gió có thể không được phát hiện nếu không có con mắt tinh tường của kính thiên văn. 

"Chúng tôi đang nói về một thay đổi nhỏ đến nỗi nếu bạn không có dữ liệu của Hubble trong 11 năm, chúng tôi sẽ không biết nó đã xảy ra", nhà khoa học hành tinh Amy Simon  cho biết trong một tuyên bố của NASA hôm thứ Hai . Simon là đồng tác giả của một nghiên cứu về gió được công bố trên tạp chí Geophysical Research Letters (liên kết PDF),
